So the station needs to cater safely for a growing local population and rising

commuter traffic.

 

This requires a fundamental redesign. It should become compliant with modern

safety standards, and — vitally — it needs to offer facilities for step-free access.

 

A rebuild would give an opportunity to install a much-needed lift, which would also

attract more passenger traffic.

 

This could in turn stimulate an uplift in the local built environment and

economic prospects.
